In 1962, when Smt. Indira Gandhi came to Renukasagar Reservoir (Dam built over Malaprhabha river) near Savadatti in Belgaum district in Karnataka for its inauguration, she was presented with silver ‘gunagadagi’ (casket for lingam) on behalf of the Lingayat community and subsequently her ‘tulabharam’ (weighing one’s weight in goods and articles and then donating the same for public welfare) in gold was held.
